Remarkable Rhythm Is Going to Poland

Remarkable Rhythm Is Going to Poland

My Dance Theatre work in association with Theatr Iolo funded by Arts Council Wales, Theatr Iolo, and South East Dance will have its first international outing to ZAMEK Culture Centre in Poznan, Poland.

After two years of touring throughout the United Kingdom to venues including: the Riverfront Arts Centre, Theatr Clwyd, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Sherman Theatre, Chapter Arts Centre, DanceBlast, Abergavenny, South East Dance in Brighton, Arad Goch’s Agor Drysau Festival, and Polka Theatre in London Remarkable Rhythm makes its debut international tour to Zamek Culture Centre in Poznan, Poland this October.

Along with performing the production on Wednesday, October 15th to an audience including 30 blind and partially sighted children, the team will also facilitate workshops for Zamek’s local community and their inclusive theatre company Klucz Theatre. This will culminate in a performance of Krystal’s improvisational installation The Bench with Klucz Theatre company performing alongside the team.

In an effort to minimise the environmental impact of international touring Zamek Culture Centre has built their very own massive bench for the production alongside working in tandem with Theatr Iolo’s Polish tour of Owl At Home to share a production team.

A massive thank you to Anna Pawłowska at Zamek Culture Centre and Arts Council Wales' International Opportunities Fund - for without either of them this tour would not be possible.

Each year, alongside Krystal S. Lowe playing the role of Rhythm, the role of Glas has been portrayed and inspired by a different Wales-based artist.

In 2023 the lovely Liam Wallace, in 2024 the jovial Jules Young.

This year the role of Glas will be played by the amazing Amber Howells!

Amber Howells is a Cardiff-based dance artist and writer whose work blends dance theatre, storytelling, and dynamic, physical movement. Having recently returned from a 70 day solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail and now enjoying adventurous van and climbing trips, she channels both boldness and reflection into her arts practice. Committed to accessibility and celebrating feminine strength, Amber approaches her work with curiosity, openness, and a focus on fostering joyful connections - to each other and the natural world. Amber has had an extensive career working on Netflix’s Sex Education, with Krystal S. Lowe, Cwmni Fran Wen and Anthony Matsena, Jones the Dance, Marcus Jarrell Willis, June Campbell-Davies, Anna Watkins, and Ransack Dance Company.

“I’m really excited to bring my wealth of knowledge in inclusive dance practice to Zamek. August 2025 marks five years since my first graduate performance job with Krystal. Now, I’m thrilled to be touring internationally alongside her in Remarkable Rhythm, a production rooted in creative integrated access. Krystal has been instrumental in my career so far, supporting me in embracing my neurodivergence and finding healthy ways to navigate the freelance world. This is why I’m thrilled to be playing the role of Glas, a neurodivergent young person figuring out their relationship to others and the world around them. After working on Remarkable Rhythm as dramaturg and rehearsal director last year, I’m very excited to perform and facilitate workshops at Zamek Culture Centre this October.”

Alongside Krystal and Amber, the note-worthy Nick Allsop will be an invaluable part of the team as Production and Technical Manager.

Nick Allsop has over 25 years experience in production management working with companies and productions such as Music Theatre Wales, Sherman Theatre, Wales Millenium Centre, National Dance Company Wales, Polka Theatre, and Theatr Iolo. Nick is driven by and committed to the creative and logistical challenges of making theatre to engage audiences. Nick’s way of working involves supporting the team and production with diligence and attentiveness to achieve excellent results through maintaining a calm and flexible approach.

There in spirit but not body will be the incredible creative team whose creativity and effort made this work complete. The musical composition of Tumi Williams and Craig Yellen, lighting designs of Elanor Higgins, and of course the bench designed by Simin Ma

“This is the first time I’m touring my own work internationally and I’m incredibly excited to be able to not only share Remarkable Rhythm as a production but to engage and connect with artists and the arts sector in Poznan as a whole. Throughout this past year, myself and Zamek Culture Centre’s Anna Pawłowska have been discussing the best way to bring this work to Polish audiences and to connect with Polish artists. As an artist who is passionate about multilingual working, it has been my pleasure to explore working with Remarkable Rhythm with a Polish voice over. It has been a brilliant way to engage and familiarise ourselves with the language ahead of our time there. The most exciting thing for me is to find out how they’ll use their bench after we leave!”
