2022 Our Voice Bursary
For female artists of the Global Majority who aspire to a career in the arts.
The Our Voice Bursary will support two female artists of the Global Majority, for one year, to begin a career in the arts and make ongoing connections in the arts sector. The two bursary recipients have been chosen through an open selection process seeking those with great passion for their art-form and a clear vision of what they want even if they don’t yet know how to achieve it.
Bursary recipients will receive mentoring and support from Krystal S. Lowe in application and CV writing, feedback on creative ideas and next steps, support in finding jobs and opportunities, and connecting recipients with people in the arts sector to support ongoing career development. Along with this mentoring and support, artists will also receive one week of space (workspace and/or studio space) at a venue near their home to explore their art-form, £500.00 bursary to support expenses and time away from work to develop their art-form; and the opportunity to showcase a work-in-progress in a 2023 showcase produced by Krystal S. Lowe.
The 2022 Our Voice Bursary recipients are Karema Ahmed and Stephanie Stevens.
Karema Ahmed is a Cardiff-based emerging singer/song-writer who is passionate about music and how it allows people to express themselves and connect with others. Karema values respect, inclusivity, compassion, and diversity and ensures all of her work, and working relationships, are underpinned by these values. It’s Karema’s desire to learn the ins and outs of the music industry, to write and produce her own songs, and to collaborate with a wide diversity of artists.
Stephanie Stevens is an actor, writer and singer. Performing in London theatres such as Park Theatre, Theatre 503 and Bush Theatre, she is drawn to theatre that incorporates love, spirituality, history and equality.
